McTimoney Chiropractic for Animals

McTimoney chiropractic is a technique developed by John McTimoney in the 1950's, which was later adapted for use in animals due to its gentle, non-invasive and holistic nature. The technique is a manual (hands only) treatment that employs high velocity (fast) and low amplitude (light) adjustments to the neck, back and pelvis, aiming to restore balance and alignment to the body. McTimoney chiropractic treatment works on the basis that the body has "innate intelligence", whereby the entire musculoskeletal and neurological system strives to function efficiently and effectively - McTimoney aims to remove restrictions, pain and physical dysfunction that may be hindering this. The spine and pelvis of animals have the ability to move; flex, extend and rotate to allow for comfortable and correct movement; if these structures are restricted or altered, the body will attempt to compensate elsewhere, potentially leading to secondary problems. McTimoney chiropractic treatment aims to restore this function, and promote overall comfort.  The treatment is very well accepted by most animals, and can be useful in those who are anxious or sensitive to touch, due to it's gentle and minimal approach.

Our McTimoney Animal practitioner is also a qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist, allowing for a combined approach to optimising rehabilitation and overall wellbeing.
